Wing One "The Ultimate Hand Held Clay Target Thrower"

I recently received the Wing One clay target thrower to perform a gear review on my blog.  My family and I have shot clay targets for several years as a sport as well as in preparation for bird hunting season.  We have used an array of throwers including the MTM hand held clay target thrower as well as the Winchester clay target thrower.  We have used a few other throwers, but these are the main two we have used over the past several years.

I took my wife, brother, and brother-in-law with me on my clay target expedition to make the trip a little more fun than me just throwing a few clay targets around.  My brother and I were very familiar with shooting clay pigeons, my wife had shot them a few times, and this would be my brother-in-law's second time shooting clays.  The reason I mention this is because when we started using the Wing One thrower, we all noticed how easy it was to use.

What I liked the most about the Wing One hand held thrower was how easy and fast it was to load and throw.  My brother and I demonstrated how easy and fast you can load and throw with the Wing One clay target thrower in the video below!

The Wing One is super simple to load! All you do is simply slide the clay in the space provided and it is set.  With the other clay target throwers I have used, I either break the clay while trying to squeeze it in the opening, or I place it either to far forward or backward in the groove.  With the Wing One, there is no guessing game or no worry about breaking your clay targets while loading.  Below is a close up of the area you simply slide the clay into.

Another thing I liked about the Wing One thrower was the variety it gave me in throwing options!  Because the Wing One is a hand held thrower I was able to change up the speed, direction, altitude, and uniqueness all by the way I threw it.  This was nice seems how my brother and I were there more for a challenge yet my brother-in-law and wife were mostly concerned with consistency.  My brother and I were able to change up the flight patters to resemble everything from low flying grouse, fast flying teal, high flying any many other flight patterns. This feature is not found in any other thrower I have ever used.  The spring loaded throwers do not let you change you speed much, and the other hand held throwers I've used are difficult to control while trying to throw hard enough to get the clay to release.  The following video shows a variety of throws you can do with the Wing One hand held thrower!

We all took turns throwing clay with the Wing One thrower, and all of us including my wife expressed how easy it was to operate.  She had attempted to use the spring loaded throwers, but pulling the arm back always made her nervous and the hand held throwers were just to annoying/complicated for her to feel comfortable with.  The Wing One was simple, easy, fast, and consistent.  If you don't believe me please check out this comparison of the Wing One hand held thrower to a number of other clay target throwers available on the market today.  http://wingoneusa.com/WingOne/Comparison.html

I would not hesitate a second to recommend this thrower to anyone who enjoys shooting clay targets, or anyone interesting in trying out the sport/hobby.  This thrower is simply the best one I have ever used and would prefer using it over any hand held thrower as well as over using my spring loaded string pull thrower!  The Wing One is completely maintenance free with a limited lifetime warranty.  You wont find this product laying around you're local sporting goods store so please check out http://wingoneusa.com/WingOne/Home.html and pick yourself up one today! You wont regret it!

Here is another short little video of my brother using the Wing One

National Elk Refuge

Great View of the Grand Tetons
Great View of the Grand Tetons
Today was a fun day to get out and enjoy the area we live in. About a year a go my wife and I went over to Jackson Hole Wyoming and went on a sleigh ride through the National Elk Refuge. At that time my wife was pregnant with our daughter. Today we both had work off and decided why not go over and see the elk before they drop their antlers.

We took the 1 1/2 hour drive over the Jackson pass and showed up at the visitors center. We snapped a few pics of my daughter in her Button Buck hat enjoying the displays.

Later we went out on a horse drawn sleigh ride in 29 degree weather and checked out the elk! Our tour guide took us to the bulls because that is what everyone wanted to see even though the larger group of elk were in another section of the refuge. We were able to see some nice bulls, including one that would have scored around 360-370. Even though it was quite chilly, we enjoyed the sleigh ride an had a blast.

National Elk Refuge

Jackson Hole has had this elk refuge for over 100 years and is a winter home to over 7,000 elk and around 900 bison. The refuge is over 25,000 acres of devoted elk habitat specifically protected and managed to allow elk a safe environment for the winter. SOG FSA-98 Flash II

I recently received a new knife from Buck Stone Creek (where you can get this knife for about 50% off) and have been impressed with it enough that I decided to write up a quick review on it.  The knife is the SOG FSA-98 Flash 2.  Know if the name alone doesn't impress you enough just wait to hear what I have to say about the knife!  When I first opened the box and held the knife in my hand I was thinking it was a little bit smaller than I expected.  I pushed the blade up to open the knife and the blade sprung open with ease and locked in place.  When I say the blade sprung open I am not exaggerating.  This knife is designed to open fast and easy with very little effort.  I only had to open the blade less than 1/8th of the way open and the design of the knife did the rest.  This feature is a little hard to give justice through words so check out the video below to see how fast this blade opens!

Because the blade opens so fast, I like how SOG makes their knives as safe as they can by including a Piston lock system which locks the blade closed to help prevent accidental openings.  The lock is super smooth and easy to operate by flipping it up to lock it and down to unlock the blade.  When the lock is in place you can tug all you want and there is no way that blade is going to be opening.  I like this feature especially seems how I spend a lot of time with my younger relatives in the outdoors.

The blade on this knife is a heat treated, 3.5 inch, 1/2 serrated blade which is as sharp as they come.  I used this knife when I was fishing the fillet a trout I caught.  The knife wasn't as flexible as a fillet knife of course, but it cut with ease through the skin and bones of the two trout I caught.

The last thing I will say about the knife will be my first thought I had when I got it out of the box.  I initially thought it was smaller than I had thought, but that was because this knife is to be a low profile, discrete carry knife.  The handle is designed perfectly for my hand yet is slim enough that I hardly feel it in my pocket while carrying it.  The clip is specially designed to carry the knife low in your pocket, also to keep it discrete and concealed.  This is a great feature for a knife with an 8" overall length when open!  For more details on this knife SOG provided these specs:
